About the Monastery

Growing out of a monastic cell in Halifax created in 1994, the community relocated to the countryside in 2004 in search of a more secluded and hidden life near New Germany, NS, on Goose Chase Rd.  Over the years, more and more pilgrims, spiritual children and retreatants have found their way to the Hermitage.

The brotherhood is placed under the protection of the Mother of God, in order to continually ponder the calling of humankind: to give birth to God spiritually in our heart as Mary did physically when she gave birth to Jesus. The monks strive to live a life of stability and simplicity, practising lectio divina, the prayer of the heart, continual repentance and attentiveness.

The monastery is a school of love. The touchstone for the brothers is the love they bear, which is revealed through attentiveness to each other. There, everything is ordered to intimacy with Christ and to prayer, which foster communion with the world, sanctifying it.

The brothers work to procure for the community the necessary means to survive. Grounding themselves in the surrounding fields and forests, they have chosen to work the holy grounds of the monastery to create fruitful gardens.
